Yolo County Coroner Releases Official Cause Of Death Of UC Davis Student, Roommate

DAVIS (CBS13) - The Yolo County Coroner's Office has ruled the official cause of death of 27-year-old Whitney Engler was gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

Engler's body was found at a Davis home that she shared with her roommate, 23-year-old Joe Hein. He was also found dead at the home of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Police say a suspected shooter called 911 on Thursday night just before 7 p.m. reporting the shooting death of two people inside of a home in the 2200 block of Glacier Drive. With little information to go on, police thought it was an ambush and set up a perimeter.

Police later went inside the home and found the bodies of 27-year-old Engler and her roommate, 23-year-old Joe Hein.

Police believe Hein was the shooter and had called police before he killed Engler and himself.
