WEST SACRAMENTO — One person was killed after their vehicle crashed while on the Yolo Causeway late Wednesday night.

Caltrans said one vehicle was involved in the crash, which happened around 10:30 p.m. between the cities of Davis and West Sacramento. Two of three eastbound Interstate 80 lanes were blocked as a result.

A 2007 Honda was headed eastbound on the freeway at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and overturned, killing the driver, the CHP said in a statement. No others were in the car at the time, and no other vehicles were involved. They believe alcohol and/or drugs played a part in the crash, which still remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the CHP Woodland-area office at (530) 662-4685. Tha name of the driver has not been released.

This is the second day in a row that a crash occurred on the causeway. On Tuesday, a big rig that rolled over during the early morning caused traffic delays well into the evening. Both crashes caused traffic to back up through the area.

The Yolo Causeway is an elevated highway viaduct on Interstate 80 that crosses the Yolo Bypass and connects the cities of West Sacramento and Davis.
