Woodland Police: Knife-Wielding Suspect Killed After Charging At Officers
WOODLAND (CBS13) — A knife-wielding suspect was shot and killed by a police officer after allegedly charging at him, Woodland Police said on Monday.
The shooting happened near the intersection of Elliott and College streets as neighbors were starting their day.
The suspect's name has not been released.
Woodland Police say just before 6 a.m., they responded to a disturbance call at the College Manor Apartments where they found a man who appeared to be agitated and holding a knife.
"I heard three shots, and he hit the ground," said resident Mark Gravink.
Gravink says he and several neighbors were startled by the early morning officer-involved shooting.
"He was talking to the officers and he was yelling at them and they were yelling back and forth," Gravnik said.
At some point, police say the suspect lunged at one of the officers with the knife, and that's when an officer opened fire.
Gravink says he didn't see a weapon.
"I didn't see it," he said. "The officers interviewed me and asked me that and I didn't see it, and the manager here didn't see it."
The officers were not injured, but the suspect later died.
Gravink says officers have been to the complex many times, before, but not recently.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
