Women Will Be Able To Serve In War-Zone Combat Positions After DoD Change

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Women will soon serve in war-zone combat positions with no exceptions as part of a major policy change announced by the Department of Defense on Thursday.

For the first time, women will be able to serve as green berets, Army rangers and Navy Seals, leading infantry soldiers into combat.

For women who may be considering a career in the military, there are suddenly new options.

The decision is being cheered by West Point graduates Brian and Andrea Baker, the Sacramento husband and wife attended the military academy together.

"When we were at West Point, we would be running and we would sing cadences, and one of the most popular cadences would be 'I want to be an airborne ranger,' he said, "and it never crossed my mind that 10 percent of the people singing that couldn't do that even if they wanted to."
