Pilot survives a plane crash in Calaveras County

CALAVERAS COUNTY - A woman was uninjured in a plane crash in a remote area of Calaveras County Thursday evening, the Calaveras Consolidated Fire said.

The FAA said the plane crash was near New Hogan Lake sometime around 4 p.m. They said it was in a remote area on the southwest side of the lake, near Mt. Buena Vista.

The pilot, the only person in the plane, was not injured, firefighters said. The FAA said she was flying a single-engine Aeronca Model 7 Champion.

Firefighters said a CHP helicopter was able to locate and rescue the woman before sunset.

The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office said the woman 23-year-old pilot traveling from Calaveras Airport to Franklin, California, was forced to make an emergency landing.

New Hogan Lake is in the Sierra Nevada foothills, about 30 miles northeast of Stockton.

The crash is under investigation by the FAA.
