Woman Falls Down Big Sur Cliff, Drowns In Ocean

BIG SUR, Calif. (AP) - Officials say a 20-year-old woman died after sliding down a seaside cliff and falling into the ocean while hiking in Big Sur.

Monterey County Search and Rescue says Medina Faraz was hiking in the area of McWay Falls, near Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. She was climbing down and around a cliff Friday without the proper equipment or clothing when she fell.

KSBW-TV reports the preliminary cause of death is drowning. Her body was recovered.

A detective for the Monterey County coroner is investigating.
