MODESTO - An arrest has been made after a woman was assaulted and died at the hospital Friday night in Modesto, police said.

Shortly before 9 p.m., officers responded to northbound Highway 99 offramp at 6th Street for a report of a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian. Officers said the victim was found on the onramp and was taken to the hospital where she died.

Police said they learned the victim was assaulted and the suspects off from the scene.

But police said the suspect, a 32-year-old Ceres man, turned himself in around 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The suspect and the victim appeared to be involved in a relationship, police said. The suspect was booked into jail on homicide and domestic violence charges.
