Winter Storm Prompting Watches And Warnings In Sacramento Area

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Get ready for a wet and windy Thursday across Northern California and into the Sacramento area.

This storm is offering a hodgepodge of advisories as it gets set to bring plenty of rain and wind throughout the area. Let's break down the possible troublemakers one-by-one:

HOW MUCH RAIN?

This storm is expected to drop between 1 and 3 inches on the Valley floor with up to 5 inches of rain the higher up you go. If it turns to snow, you're looking at 12 to 30 inches of snow potentially.

FLOODING POTENTIAL

It's been a wet start to the rainy season and with more on the way, it's important to keep an eye on creeks and streams around you. A flood watch has been issued for much of Northern California

POWER OUTAGES

There will be plenty of high wind roaring through the area, putting trees and power lines at risk. You'll want to make sure to charge your cellphones whenever possible and have candles and flashlights ready (And you can watch the CBS13 News at Noon, 4, 5, 6 and 10 streaming at cbs13.com/watch).

As always, the higher up you go, the worse the possible winds.

WHAT ABOUT SNOW?

A Winter Storm Watch and Warning is in effect, but don't expect snow levels to drop until late in the day. The combination of high winds and snow could create whiteout conditions, so be careful if you're heading up in the Sierra.
