Whole Foods Pulls Pre-Peeled Oranges From Shelves After Online Outrage

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Facing the wrath of the internet, Whole Foods has pulled a pre-peeled orange product from their stores.

A tweet sent out Thursday morning by Twitter user Nathalie Gordon seems to have sparked the backlash. Gordon posted a photo of the product – pre-peeled oranges packed in a plastic tub – along with the sarcastic caption "If only nature would find a way to cover these oranges so we didn't need to waste so much plastic on them."

The tweet has garnered more than 59,000 retweets and likes as of Friday morning.

Later Thursday, Whole Foods responded to Gordon and said they would be pulling the product.

Many commenters noted that pre-peeled oranges are an attractive product to people who may have disabilities or the elderly.
