Whether Rain Or Snow, Area Welcomes Wet Weather

BLUE CANYON (CBS13) – The winter weather is officially here.

Snow was coming down hard at the Boreal Ski Resort in Soda Springs Saturday – much to the surprise of snowboarders and skiers.

"It was raining coming up here and I was like, 'It's going to be sucky," said snowboarder Sheldon Lentz-Maggard.

But luckily it wasn't. Many hit the slopes; some hit the ground in the process, getting in as many runs as possible while they can.

"Fell on my hip, I did two front flips," Lentz-Maggard said. "It was crazy!"

At lower elevations, rain fell off and on.

Some folks cut their holiday weekend early, in anticipation of another storm.

"I didn't want to go through tomorrow," traveler Kevin Trapani said. "[I] saw the weather report, bunch of rain tomorrow, and I don't want to deal with that."

They spent their holiday weekend in Carson City and are heading back to the Bay area. Not wanting to deal with messy, crowded roads on Sunday, they took their chance Saturday night.

"Patches of rain up in Truckee, but pretty much just starting lighten up on this side of the hill," Trapani said.

And in response to what could come, Caltrans salt trucks loaded up and headed out, ready for any kind of a wintery mix on Interstate 80.

"We're just gearing up for what might come," said Aaron Patton from Caltrans. "[We're] not sure if anything is going to happen, but we just need to be prepared just in case."
