Wet Weather Returns To Northern California, Snow In Store

SACRAMENTO (CBS13/AP) - The first storm of the season is rolling into California, bringing rain, cooler temperatures and snow in the mountains.

The National Weather Service says a cold front coming down from the northwest has dropped some rain in the Sacramento region Sunday, which could see up to three-quarters of an inch of rain that is expected to continue to Monday evening.

Forecasters said the storm could dump 4 to 8 inches of snow at about 7,000 feet in the Sierra Nevada, and possibly up to 12 inches of snow along the highest mountain peaks.

Rain and cooler weather is expected across the state, with temperatures dropping to the 60s and 70s.

Caltrans has closed Highway 120 over the Tioga Pass due to the storm. No estimated time of reopening has been given.

Forecasters warned of rough seas and gusty winds off Southern California due to the cold unstable air.
