Wet Sacramento Winter Reviving Memories Of 1860s Flood

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento's wet winter is also serving as a history lesson, recalling the "Great Flood" of the 1860s.

The flood left the city submerged in water after 45 straight days of rain.

A levee breach left water inside the city higher in some spots than the Sacramento River.

The city responded to the flood by lifting its downtown streets two stories high.

It took 13 years to complete the work. And, as CBS13's Steve Large shows us, that work still stands.
