West Sacramento Playground Hit By Vandals

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A West Sacramento playground was targeted by vandals, leaving children and parents to find their play haven spraypainted and defaced.

Barbara and Mark Bush bring their grandchildren to the Summerfield Park playground almost every day.

"I don't even understand why anybody would do something like that," she said of the vandalism.

Profanities and gang markings were all around, and a play structure was smeared with glue. Police crime scene tape draped the fence where young children usually play.

Debbie Bertrand, along with dozens of parents, dropped off kids at a nearby bus stop on Wednesday morning. When the children got closer, she says they were stunned.

"They're all looking at it. And most of them can read already. They know what it says and they were asking questions," she said.

The playground that should be filed with music and laughter was silenced with evidence of crime and blight, despite being only a few months old.
