West Sacramento Family Tracks Down Home Invasion Suspect

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A West Sacramento family is a little shaken up tonight after a suspected intruder showed up at their home on Jefferson Boulevard.

The homeowner held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.

The Humphrey family never thought they'd become victims of a crime, and they say it was the family gun that saved them from what could have been a tragic home invasion.

Emotional with tears streaming down her face, Audra Humphrey describes the first thing that came to her mind – "I don't know what his intentions were, I was so worried about my family."

It was a typical Monday morning for the Humphrey's.

"I let the dog out and then went inside to get my sweater," he said.

Seconds later, things took a drastically different turn.

"The dog was barking so differently and was making weird noise, I knew something wasn't right," he said.

The Humphrey family needed to think fast – Audra recalls what happened next.

"He ran right through the door and was charging at our door, and that's when I yelled for my husband, and we barricaded the door."

Terrified, Brandon and Audra put their entire weight against their bedroom door, trying to keep the intruder from harming their two children.

"I yelled at him and told him to leave and that I was armed," Brandon Humphrey said.

Brandon says he then did a sweep of the home, and when he walked into the backyard he found the intruder hiding.

"I saw him crouched in the bushes, and I told him to face down and not to move until the police got here."

Brandon's wife called 9-1-1 and a nearby police officer immediately responded and arrested the suspect

The Humphrey family is relieved, but still shaken up.

The couple says they acted out of instinct and did everything they could to protect their little boy and girl.

West Sacramento Police are not identifying the suspect, but say he is undergoing a mental health evaluation.

The suspect will then be booked into the Yolo County Jail.
