Weberstown Mall In Stockton Claiming Growing Success, Despite Online Shopping Boom
STOCKTON (CBS13) - As malls across America struggle to compete against online retailers, there's one local mall claiming growing success.
Weberstown Mall in Stockton announced the grand opening of Daniel's Jewelers. It's a family-owned business with more than 80 stores across California.
Daniel's staff says with the right strategy, malls can still compete with online retail.
"Opening our door here was just finding the right location in the right mall," said Daniel's CEO David Sherwood.
"Just the overall atmosphere is bringing everyone to the mall," said Kim Grupe, Daniel's store manager.
But not all malls across the country are celebrating. According to a recent Wall Street journal article, the boom of online shopping and changing consumer habits are keeping many families away. But apparently not here.
"It's a great mall. It has a lot of things that people are looking for," said shopper Harlin Watts.

Daniel's Jewelers says they like the mall's creative advertising with free giveaways, good honest handshakes and warm smiles – things not found online.
The other draw is the fact that it's nice and cool inside when it's 104 degrees outside.
