Washington Nationals Pitcher Baffled By California Prop. 65 Warning On Belt

VIERA, Fla. (AP) - Ross Detwiler is baffled over his belt.

The Washington Nationals pitcher noticed a warning label stamped on his team-issued belt as he was suiting up for a spring training workout Friday. He took off the belt and showed it to reporters.

It read: "WARNING: This product may contain a chemical known in the state of California to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm."

Detwiler called out to clubhouse manager Mike Wallace: "Hey, Wally, can I get a new belt?"

Wallace examined the belt and said: "We're not in the state of California."

Detwiler still appeared concerned, but he nevertheless shrugged and put on the belt.

The label apparently stems from a 2011 warning from the Center for Environmental Health about high lead levels in baseball uniform belts.
