Warrant Issued For Davis Junior High School Teacher In Sexual Battery Case

DAVIS (CBS13) — A junior high school teacher is in trouble with the law, facing charges of sexual battery, but not yet in custody.

John O'Brien is a popular teacher at Harper Junior High School, but an alert from the Davis Joint Unified School District warned of the charges he is facing.

Superintendent Winfred Roberson said the school's investigation into O'Brien has been underway since September when Davis Police first told them about his alleged actions.

"We've initiated proceedings for dismissal," he said.

O'Brien has been on unpaid administrative leave since September when Davis Police first notified the school.

In a statement issued to parents late in the day on Friday, the district did not mention the nature of the sexual battery accusation, or if it involved a student.

No one answered at the door of O'Brien's apartment, and a neighbor told CBS13 he hasn't been around in weeks.

Counselors will be available for students and teachers at the school.
