Volunteers Bring Thanksgiving Cheer To Butte Fire Victims

SAN ANDREAS (CBS13) — A small army of volunteers helped people affected by the massive Butte Fire by preparing a Thanksgiving meal.

The food was donated for those who may have nothing more than community spirit.

"Today's just about trying to feed everybody that's lost something, or they don't have anywhere to go, or they're just homeless," Shawn Robertson said.

Chuck Swisher and his family helped coordinate the free Thanksgiving meal at the San Andreas Senior Center.

"There's still a lot of people hurting from the Butte Fire, and kind of been forgotten," he said.

Many of the volunteers preparing the feast are victims of the fire that claimed hundreds of homes. Now many surviving homeowners are finding they don't have the money to rebuild.

With a recovery still in the making, many who would otherwise have been alone with no home at least had one option for Thanksgiving.
