Vandals Splatter Red Paint In Fourth St. Serra Attack

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) -- For the fourth time, Saint Junipero Serra statutes on California's Central Coast have been vandalized.

KSBW-TV reports that school children arrived at the Santa Cruz mission Monday morning to find red paint splattered across the door and graffiti accusing St. Serra of genocide.

Vandals have targeted St. Serra since his September canonization.

A statute in the city of Carmel and one at the Carmel mission were vandalized and a statute at the lower Presidio was decapitated.

Monterey Police Sgt. Ron Blair says officers are not sure if the three Monterey Peninsula incidents are connected.

Santa Cruz police say they have no suspects at this time.
