Vacaville Toddler Declared Brain Dead Taken Off Life Support

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Vacaville toddler declared brain dead has been taken off of life support after a lengthy international legal battle.

Israel Stinson was taken off of life support following a court decision overturning a temporary restraining order placed on Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. The hospital had sought to remove the ventilator from the toddler who had been declared brain dead by three Sacramento area doctors in the spring.

The 2-year-old stopped breathing after what his mother said was a minor asthma attack earlier this year. His parents say the toddler was without oxygen for 40 minutes, causing severe brain injuries. His parents fought to keep him on life support, winning months of extensions until finally taking him out of the country to Guatemala.
