Vacant Sacramento County Homes Catch Fire Monday Morning

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) - Fire crews are investigating two fires that burned Sacramento-area homes on Monday morning.

One fire started around 4:15 a.m. at a vacant rental home on Casa Linda Drive near 24th Street in south Sacramento. Dozens of firefighters helped contain the fire to the garage. Fortunately, no other homes were threatened by the blaze.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Just after 3 a.m., flames were seen coming from behind a home on North Palladay road near Elverta Road. When fire crews arrived, they found flames coming from the roof of the two-story home, causing it to partially collapse.

Because the home was in a rural location, water crews had to bring water from a nearby fire station, resulting in the fire burning longer than usual.

Investigators say no one was home at the time of the fire, but mail with the address of the home was found inside, indicating someone lived there.
