Upset Stockton Residents Demand Answers On Police Protocol In Bank Robbery Shootout
STOCKTON (CBS13) — Several Stockton residents demanded answers on police protocols at the Stockton City Council meeting Tuesday night. The questions come as the investigation into the death of Misty Holt-Singh continues by multiple law enforcement agencies.
"Someone is responsible for her death and it's not just the criminals," said one man who spoke during public comment.
Stockton Police have said the investigation into the bank robbery, police pursuit, and shootouts with three documented Norteno gang members, who took three hostages, could take months to complete.
Mayor Anthony Silva said he supports the police department 110 percent, but is in favor of having officers wear cameras on their uniforms.
"That push for the cameras doesn't have anything directly to do per se, with the tragedy that just happened, but it seems that a lot of folks are coming to council meetings with questions about police procedures," said Silva.
"I think that way, we would get a good picture of what happens in every situation. How we best protect the officers and how we best protect the citizens."
Silva said he's had meetings with the police chief, but legally cannot ask certain questions regarding police operations.
The Manteca Police Department is the only police force in San Joaquin County with body cameras.
