UOP Student Survived Deadly Southern California Rampage After Being Hit By Car
STOCKTON (CBS13) — A photo of a survivor from last weekend's deadly Southern California rampage is gaining a big following on social media.
That survivor is a University of the Pacific water polo player.
His face bloodied, his body bruised and his legs broken, yet Nick Pasichuke gives a thumbs-up in a photo from his Santa Barbara hospital bed. He was run over on a street in Isla Vista on the night of a deadly rampage.
"Out of nowhere, get swooped up by a car and thrown about 50 yards, so far down the street is all a real blur and the next thing you know, I'm on the ground, can't move my legs," he told CNN.
The terrifying night in the college town near the UC Santa Barbara campus is now being felt on the University of the Pacific campus, and on Pasichuke's water polo team.
His father called the coach the morning after the rampage.
"It was pretty shocking, to be honest. It's a little surreal, because I haven't had a chance to see him yet," said coach James Graham.
One of Pasichuke's legs was shattered and the other was broken in one location.
The man who hit the UOP student had posted in a manifesto that he planned on running over people with his car. As it played out, Pasichuke was in his path, leaving him a survivor in a night of violence no one will forget.
"I actually didn't know about any of the other victims in this event until 15 or 20 minutes after I was hit and laying on the ground and police and other medical personnel first arrived," Pasichuke said.
