Unseasonably Warm Winter Continues With Chance Of Rain

As the Midwest and Eastern United States deal with record cold temperatures, Northern California is hitting record warmth.

Sacramento topped out at 68 degrees Saturday, breaking the old record of 66 set in 2012. Our high temperatures for this time of year should be in the low 50s.

A large and persistent ridge of high pressure is responsible for our warm temperatures and lack of rain.

Sunday will bring continued sunshine and temperatures in the mid 60s. By the middle of the week the high pressure ridge will collapse and allow for a couple of weak storm systems to move into the area.

Mountain snow and valley rain is possible Tuesday through Wednesday. Areas north of Sacramento seem to have the best chance. As of now, the systems don't seem to be packing a lot of moisture.

A few inches of snow is possible at about 5,000 feet by Thursday, while the valley could pick up less than a tenth of an inch of rain.

Next weekend looks dry and sunny.
