Uber Driver In SF Accused Of Running Down Cyclist

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - An Uber driver is accused of running down and seriously injuring a bicyclist in an apparent road-rage incident.

San Francisco police arrested 38-year-old Emerson Decarvalho on Sunday afternoon in the city's Fisherman's Wharf area, a popular tourist destination. Police say Decarvalho and the bicyclist got embroiled in a dispute about 1 p.m. as they traveled in the same direction.

Police say the unidentified 45-year-old bicyclist yelled at the driver, banged on the car and bent the car's passenger-side mirror inward. After the bicyclist passed the car, the ride-sharing company driver sped up and rammed the bike's back tire. The bicyclist was knocked unconscious and suffered a punctured lung, broken ribs and clavicle.

Decarvalho remained on the scene and was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
