Turlock motorcycle officer injured in crash while conducting traffic stop
TURLOCK – A Turlock motorcycle police officer was injured in a crash on Tuesday while trying to catch up to a speeding driver, police said on Wednesday.
The Trulock Police Department said the officer had his lights and siren active while he was trying to catch up to a speeding vehicle when he was involved in a crash on East Hawkeye Avenue, just east of North Palm Street.
Police said the officer's injuries required that he get stitches to his arm and leg. He expected to make a full recovery.
The other driver involved in the crash was not injured. Police said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
The department motorcycle was damaged extensively, police said.
"Moments like this are a powerful reminder of the risks our officers face daily while working to protect and serve," the police department said in a social media post. "Officer [Gavin] Allison was doing what so many of our officers do each shift - taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of our community."
The crash remains under investigation.
