OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Authorities says a 16-year-old boy died after a tree branch he was climbing snapped, crushing him to death along the shores of Lake Merritt in Oakland.

The Contra Costa Times reports the boy was identified Saturday as Jack Lewis of Oakland.

The teen died Friday evening after being struck by the branch he had climbed outside the entrance to Children's Fairyland, a theme park.

Oakland police say several teens were climbing on the tree when a large branch broke, causing Lewis to fall to the ground and suffer fatal injuries.
