Treated Wastewater Available To Sacramento County Residents – For Free

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Customers of the Sacramento Sanitation District will be able to fill up with free treated sewage water directly from the treatment plant.

Sacramento County wastewater from No. 1 and no. 2 that ends up at the treatment plant will now be available for free pickup after it's treated for people who live within the district boundaries.

The water can be used for watering lawns and gardens and flushing toilets - not cooking or bathing.

Carmichael artist Phil Evans has learned to adapt to the drought. He ripped out most of his dead lawn and replacing it with his owns sculptures.

Evans says he'd use the treated waste water - if he still had his lawn.

"It's treated water and it works quite well," Evans said.

Others said they would pass.

"I'm all about the brown lawn, but maybe not brown in that way," Ryan Lundquist said.

A similar program in the Dublin San Ramon Services District is proving successful.
