Transient Accused Of Assaulting 2 Girls, Punching Officer In Roseville

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) - A man is behind bars, accused of assaulting two girls and punching a police officer in Roseville over the weekend.

Around 1 p.m. Sunday, two girls, ages 11 and 12, were walking on Estates Drive near Folsom Road when a man they didn't know approached them, and, for no apparent reason, slapped them both across the face, according to a statement from the Roseville Police Department.

A driver saw the assault and called the police, offering a description of the suspect. The description helped police track down the suspect to a nearby park. When the officer made contact with the suspect, the suspect allegedly punched the officer and began to run away, say police. A bystander saw the incident, tackled the suspect, and was able to help restrain him until he could be handcuffed.

The girls were shaken up by the incident but didn't require medical treatment.

The suspect has been identified as Dillon Charles Faris, 29, a Roseville-area transient. He was booked into the Placer County Jail on suspicion of child abuse and resisting an executive officer.  He remains in custody on $100,000 bail.
