Tracy police officer suffers moderate injuries in traffic crash over the weekend

2 hurt in crash, including Tracy police officer

TRACY - An officer with the Tracy Police Department was injured in a crash over the weekend.

At around 6:11 a.m., an on-duty officer was driving southbound on Corral Hollow Road near the intersection of Byron Road when a Toyota sedan heading eastbound on Byron road ran a red light and drove in front of the officer, causing the officer's vehicle to hit them, according to a Tracy Police Department statement. The officer was responding to the report of a stolen vehicle at the the time, and although they weren't using emergency lights or sirens, they were driving at the posted speed limit, say police.

The crash caused moderate injuries to the officer and to the driver oft Toyota, who had to be extricated from their vehicle. Both were taken to a local hospital to be treated. As a result of the crash, North Corral hollow Rd. was closed as police investigated.

On Monday morning, police confirmed to CBS13 that a Tracy police officer was none of the victims.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, authorities say.
