Tom From MySpace Wants Tim Lincecum To Stay With Giants

Remember your first friend on MySpace? No, not your real first friend, but founder Tom Anderson who instantly became everyone's top friend on the social media site.

Turns out, ol' buddy Tom is a big San Francisco Giants fan and a bigger Tim Lincecum fan.

Lincecum, 31, is coming off a shortened season due to hip surgery and is still without a job deep into the free agency period. With Spring training just weeks away, several teams have reported interest in the 170-pound right-hander. Among them is his only team he's ever known, the Giants.

Despite Tom's strong interest in Lincecum returning to the Giants, he will have to pay millions of dollars just to keep him on the team for another year. Lincecum, who will have to prove to many clubs that he is healthy and able to pitch effectively in the big leagues after several mediocre seasons, may not even impress the Giants enough during his workouts.

The Giants are pushing up against the luxury tax and whatever Lincecum may get as for a contract (my guess is anywhere from $5-$12 million per year), a percentage of that will have to be taxed and added onto the bill. I'm not sure that's something Tom wants to pay, but who knows, maybe Lincecum will come back solely due to his love for the outdated social media website created by Tom.

To make matters worse, the Giants are in a tough spot. First, they signed two pitchers who are expected to pitch better than everyone on staff not named Madison Bumgarner. Second, their rotation is apparently full with Bumgarner, Johnny Cueto, Jeff Samardzija, Jake Peavy and Matt Cain - not to mention Chris Heston as the long relief/spot starter. Is there even room for Lincecum?
