Toddler Killed When Car Plows Into Ice Cream Truck

PORTERVILLE, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say a driver has been arrested on suspicion of striking a group of children and pinning them against an ice cream truck in Central California, killing a 3-year-old girl and injuring two youngsters.

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Chris Boudreaux says the man backed up his sedan and drove away after the crash, which was reported around 6 p.m. Sunday in Porterville.

Boudreaux told the Fresno Bee officers found the suspect hiding in a backyard near the crash scene and arrested him.

The suspect's name and the circumstances surrounding the crash have not been released.

The other two children were taken to a hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
