Tickets To See Pope Francis in Washington, D.C. Will Soon Be Available in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Local Catholics will need a ticket to see Pope Francis in Washington, D.C. and witness the canonization of Fr. Junipero Serra.

The Spanish-born Franciscan Friar, Serra is best known for establishing nine Spanish missions in California in the 1700s.

Out of the events 25,000 tickets, only 1,700 will be distributed in California.

Fr. Ken Laverone of St. Francis Church in Sacramento is one of the only two priests authorized to distribute tickets in California.

Within the next few days, Laverone will have hundreds of tickets to distribute and is already receiving phone calls both locally and out of state.

"Once the tickets have been granted they will be sent to me and I will distribute them to the Catholic Conference in downtown Sacramento and they will distribute them to the Bishop of Diocese of California," said Laverone

Stockton and Sacramento dioceses have also set aside 200 tickets.

Laverone said to check with your local parish to see if you qualify for a ticket.
