Thousands Gather To Remember On Memorial Day Across Sacramento Region
DIXON (CBS13) — Many in the region took a moment to pause and reflect on the sacrifices that were made on Memorial Day.
Hundreds gathered in Dixon at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. Volunteers placed 1,600 flags in front of the fallen soldiers' graves on Saturday, and people gathered for a special ceremony for those soldiers.
The cemetery is the seventh national cemetery built in California and the 124th in the nation.
More than 5,000 flags and crosses covered the Sierra Hills Memorial Park. Volunteers with the Boy Scouts and the VFW worked on Saturday to place the flags and crosses on the graves.
Ceremonies at all three east lawn cemeteries remembered those who served. The eternal flame is also burning at the memorial park.
The Turlock Memorial Park and Funeral Home held its 61st annual Memorial Day service on Monday, honoring those who lost their lives serving in a tradition dating back to 1963.
