The Grant Napear Show - October 1, 2014

 

The day's installment of the Grant Napear Show opened with criticism of the Oakland Athletics' play in last night's American League Wild Card play-in game against the Kansas City Royals, Grant scoffing at the A's sloppy play and questioning Bob Melvin's managing decisions.

Chris Rose of the MLB Network and NFL Network joined the Grant Napear Show live at 3:35 to discuss last night's AL Wild Card play-in game between the A's and Royals. Grant asked Chris what he thought about the Royals chances against the Los Angeles in the divisional series, Chris favoring the Angels in that matchup. They also previewed tonight's National League play-in game, the Giants clashing with the Pirates at PNC Park at 5:07 PM.

The Grant Napear Show hosted SI.com's Don Banks during the 4 o'clock hour, Grant curious about the Raiders coaching situation as well as John Gruden's thoughts on returning to Oakland. Don also discussed the competitive NFC West and the talent level of the Bay Area's two teams, and additionally offered his general assessment of this year's best teams through Week 4.

Broadcasting great Ernie Johnson of Turner Sports joined Grant to describe his experience calling last night's instant classic between the Royals and Athletics, the Wild Card play-in game Kansas City's first postseason baseball appearance since 1985. Ernie told Grant about the atmosphere in Kansas City leading up to the game and also talked about the surprising performance of each team, the assumed pitcher's duel unravelling into a high-scoring battle. Finally, Ernie told Grant about his experience watching Jeter play his last game at Fenway Park.

Sacramento Kings' forward Jason Thompson joined the Grant Napear Show in the final hour of the show to preview the NBA season. Grant asked JT about how training camp has started out this year in Sacramento and what the buzz is like regarding the team traveling to China. Jason also told Grant about his offseason, saying he started his training earlier this season than he has in past years.

Grant concluded by briefly commenting on the status of the National League Wild Card play-in between the Giants and Pirates, San Francisco running away with that affair and clinching a date with the Washington Nationals in the National League Division Series.
