Teen Enters Not-Guilty Plea In Killing Of Santa Cruz Girl

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) - A teen boy has entered a not guilty plea in the killing of an 8-year-old California girl.

KGO-TV reports Monday that 15-year-old Adrian Gonzalez was charged as an adult with the murder, kidnapping and sexual assault of Maddy Middleton earlier this summer.

Both Gonzalez and Maddy lived at the Tannery Arts Center, a housing complex for artists and their families in the beach town of Santa Cruz. She was reported missing July 26 and her body was discovered inside a recycling bin the following night.

The community has supported Maddy's family. Hundreds attended a public memorial for her.

Oct. 5, her birthday, has also been declared Maddy Middleton Day.
