Sutter Creek Plane Crash Victims Were Father And Son

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Sheriff's officials say the victims of a small plane crash in Northern California were a father and son.

Amador County Undersheriff James Wegner tells the Sacramento Bee Phillip Faillers, of Sutter Creek, was returning to the county on Wednesday for Christmas after picking up his 27-year-old son, Alex, in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The single-engine plane crashed near Sutter Creek, a town about 40 miles southeast of Sacramento. Wegner says authorities received a 911 call about the crash a little after 12:30 p.m. and found the two men dead when they arrived at the scene.

The plane was not far from an airport.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said preliminary information indicated the plane was a Cessna 172.
