2 Killed In Crash On Highway 99 Near Nicolaus

SUTTER COUNTY (CBS13) – Two people were killed in a crash on Highway 99 in Sutter County Monday morning, authorities said.

The scene on Highway 99 at Sacramento Avenue, about two miles north of the community of Nicolaus.

The crash happened just after 6 a.m.

According to California Highway Patrol, a big rig drifted into the lane and clipped an oncoming pickup truck on the driver's side. Two people inside the pickup - the driver and the left rear passenger - were killed in the crash.

The two people killed have been identified as a 32-year-old Yuba City resident and a 19-year-old Live Oak resident. Two other people were inside the pickup truck during the crash; both were not injured.

A little after the original crash, a second pickup truck crashed into the back of the big rig. The driver of that pickup escaped serious injury.

Caltrans said the crash blocked southbound lanes on Highway 99 for a short time. The lanes have since been reopened, but drivers should expect congestion in the area for the time being.
