Suspect Steals Woman's Car, With 2 Children Inside, At Sacramento Gas Station

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Two kids are safe after a scary incident at a Sacramento gas station Thursday afternoon.

Sacramento police say a woman stopped at the Shell gas station on Fruitridge Road and Martin Luther King Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. She went in the store and left her car running to keep the A/C on, since her 5 and 6-year-old children were inside.

When she came back outside, she saw an unknown man in the driver's seat.

She pleaded with the man, telling him to take the car but not the kids. He took off anyway, police say.

Bystanders were able to follow the car as they called police. Eventually, the man stopped the car less than a mile down the road, near 23rd Avenue, and was taken into custody by officers.

The children are OK, police say.

Police have not released the identity of the suspect.
