Suspect Puts Tractor In 'Creeper Mode,' Destroys Thousands Of Dollars Worth Of Crops

FRESNO (CBS13) - Suspects who stole a tractor caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to crops in Central Valley, authorities say.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, the incident started at a farm near Brannon and Nees Avenues in Firebaugh. A person is suspected of putting the tractor into "creeper mode," then jumping out and letting the tractor go off.

The unoccupied tractor went nearly six miles, crossing through the fields of numerous farmers, before it finally came to a rest in a dry canal.

Tomatoes, cotton, asparagus, peppers and pistachio trees were damaged by the tractor. No exact number was given, but authorities say the runaway tractor caused thousands of dollars worth damage.
