Suspect In 20-Hour Standoff In Cameron Park Taken Into Custody

CAMERON PARK (CBS13) – A suspect at the center of a nearly 20-hour swat standoff in Cameron Park is now in custody after being shot by deputies.

It all started Thursday morning as a domestic dispute in an apartment complex on La Canada Drive, near Cambridge Drive.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office says at one point the suspect, a man who was armed, was holding a woman and child against their will. They were later released.

Throughout the day, SWAT officers from El Dorado County and Folsom were on scene, deploying multiple rounds of tear gas into the home. The suspect responded with multiple gun shots.

Early Friday morning, shots were fired from both the SWAT officers and the suspect. The suspect was hit and then taken into custody. He has been taken to the hospital.

Deputies had La Canada Drive blocked off during the entire ordeal and those closures are still in place as deputies investigate.

People living in the area were evacuated, and the Red Cross was brought on scene to assist them.
