Study: Highway 99 Ranked The Deadliest Road In US

FRESNO (CBS13) - A Central Valley freeway has been rated as the most dangerous road in the US, according to a new study.

According to personal finance website ValuePenguin.com, Highway 99 has the most fatal accidents per 100 miles with 62.3. Between 2011 and 2015, the highway saw a total of 264 fatal accidents, according to ValuePenguin.com's numbers.

The of the freeway in and around Fresno had 34 fatal accidents in the timeframe ValuePenguin.com looked at.

Interstate 45 in Texas was second place in the study with 56.5 fatal accidents per 100 miles.

Of note, ValuePenguin.com also ranked Highway 99 as the darkest freeway in the US – with 40 percent of the all fatal accidents in the years looked at in the study happening in the dark.
