Strong, Winter-Like Storm Blankets Sierra With Snow, Creates Travel Headaches

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A strong, winter-like storm blanketed the Sierra with plenty of snow during a busy holiday travel day.

"So far, I've seen a few people upside down, obviously going to be a little too fast," said Caltrans spokesman Dave Wood.

Phil Troyer drove all the way from Indiana, only to be stopped and turned around in Meyers.

"This is my third day on the road and my smart phone didn't say there was a storm coming through here so I'm a little peeved," he said.

The delivery driver had no chains for the trailer he's supposed to have in Lodi by Wednesday and not enough money to buy them.

"Chains are a couple hundred dollars and they only give me enough gas money for fuel," he said.

As the storm rolls through, those who waited to travel will be hitting the roads hard on Wednesday.
