Report: Clowns Trying To Lure Kids Into Woods In South Carolina

GREENVILLE, S.C. – An apartment manager in a South Carolina is warning residents about sightings of a clown in the nearby woods, reports CBS affiliate WSPA.

The manager wrote in a letter to residents of Fleetwood Manor Apartments in Greenville there have been "a lot of complaints" about "a clown or a person dressed in clown clothing...trying to lure children in the woods."

On August 21, a woman filed a report with Greenville County deputies that her son saw the "clowns in the woods" in the evening. Someone else told an investigating deputy he saw a clown near a dumpster and waved at her and she waved back.

Some children also claimed several clowns were in the woods and used large amounts of money to persuade them to follow them.

An investigator followed up on witness reports that the clowns lived in a nearby house, but a deputy wrote on August 21 that he followed the trail to the home and didn't see any evidence of the clowns.

This is the only incident report filed concerning clown sightings, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
