Who Snatched Puppy From Downtown Sacramento Home?

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Thieves cut a fence and managed to steal a puppy from a Downtown Sacramento home.

The Front Street Animal Shelter believes the German Shepherd may still be near the home on 14th and V streets.

Residents say the owner didn't have the dog for long when it was stolen between 2 and 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. Ariya, an 11-month-old puppy was taken from the backyard.

"It appears that someone used bolt cutters and cut the chain link fence," said Gina Knepp with Front Street.

She says the owner contacted them and they quickly posted it on social media where it has been shared thousands of times. Knepp says the dog may have been taken by a nearby homeless person, or someone who felt the owner wasn't taking careof the dog by letting it stay outside.

She says if you've picked up a dog in the last few days, make sure to check to see if its microchipped.
