Stolen Ambulance Crashes On Highway 99 After Chase in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A suspect is in the hospital after allegedly stealing an ambulance and crashing it early Monday morning.

Around 3 a.m., police received a call that someone stole an ambulance parked at an ambulance bay at Sutter Memorial Hospital, according to a Sacramento Police Department statement. An officer near McGeorge School of Law heard the report and spotted the vehicle in the area of 5th Avenue and Broadway and began following it, starting what police say was a lengthy chase.

Additional officers joined the pursuit and attempted to stop the ambulance, which drove on Highway 99. The driver crashed just south of Elverta Road.

Kenneth Javier, 22, was arrested and taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.
