Stockton's Dallas Braden Retires From Baseball With Oakland Athletics
STOCKTON (CBS13) — An Oakland Athletics pitcher who grew up in Stockton is calling it a career after battling shoulder injuries.
Dallas Braden, 30, pitched for the Athletics in from 2007-2011, amassing a 26-36 record over five seasons with a 4.16 ERA.
Braden's big moment came at home against the Tampa Bay Rays on Mother's Day in 2010. The then-26-year-old threw a perfect game, retiring all 27 batters he faced. The Sacramento River Cats honored his achievement with a bobblehead.
But shoulder problems would limit Braden's career. He underwent surgery on his shoulder in 2011 and had another surgery on his rotator cuff that same year.
Braden pitched for Stagg High School in Stockton, then went on to Texas Tech University. He was drafted by the Athletics in 2004.
Braden played for the River Cats in 2007 and 2008 and the Stockton Ports in 2005, 2006 and 2010.
