Stockton Reeling After Five Shooting Deaths Since Friday

STOCKTON (CBS13) — After months of relative calm, spring in Stockton has given bloom to five gunshot deaths in one weekend.

The latest happened last night in the 3000 block of Volney Street in Stockton.

Despite the shootings, Stockton Police say they are stepping up their efforts to make Stockton the safest midsize city in America.

They are still trying to find a motive in the shootings.

Saturday night Happy Meals were interrupted by gunfire as a man walked up to a car in a McDonald'ss drive through and opened fire on a man and woman in their 20s. The man died from his injuries the woman remains in critical condition.

Early this Sunday morning at 3 a.m., a woman in her 30s was shot and killed on Volney Street

Rounding out the deadly weekend, three people were shot and killed Friday in gang-related violence.

Community leaders say citizens have to end the cycle.

"We have to break the silence and if we see something say something, we go by the street code a lot of snitches get stitches," says Lucy Hudson of Angel Mothers.

A motive for the shootings or suspects is not clear.

Thursday night a vigil will be held at Edison High School to address the violence.
