Stockton Police Officer Shoots Suspect After Chase On Highway 99

SALIDA (CBS13) – Authorities say a Stockton Police officer shot a suspect he had been chasing on Highway 99 Tuesday night.

The incident started just before 10 a.m. when the officer spotted a car speeding on southbound Highway 99 near Main Street in Ripon, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office. It apparently matched the description of a car involved in a robbery earlier.

A chase on Highway 99 soon ended just south of Hammett Road when the suspect crashed and flipped his car.

The officer says the suspect pulled out a gun while getting out of his wrecked car, prompting the officer to shoot him. The suspect was hit at least once and has been taken to the emergency room, but is expected to be OK.

A passenger inside the car with the suspect was also taken to the hospital.

Investigators from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office, the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office, California Highway Patrol and Stockton Police are looking into the incident.
