Stockton Names Kurt Wilson As New City Manager At City Council Meeting
STOCKTON (CBS13) — The City of Stockton looked inside its own ranks for a new city manager and announced Interim City Manager Kurt Wilson will be taking the position.
The announcement of Wilson's promotion was made by Stockton Mayor Anthony Silva at the beginning of Tuesday's City Council meeting.
"I am honored to nominate an extremely qualified individual who represents continuity, fairness, diversity and professionalism. This is truly a fresh start for our city," Silva said. "Working together, our possibilities are endless."
Wilson joined as deputy city manager with the city in 2012 and has been interim city manager since November. He also served in the Schwarzenegger administration.
In November, Silva had leaked Coachella City Manager David Garcia as a possible replacement for outgoing city manager Bob Deis. The following day, Garcia removed his name from running.
The Stockton City Council voted to admonish Silva at a December meeting for what council members say was a Brown Act violation by disclosing Garcia's candidacy for the position. Dozens came to support the mayor at that meeting.
